Hull City have decided to part ways with their Norwegian forward Adama Diomande. According to the club’s official Twitter handle, the 28-year-old forward will leave the Tigers in order to join Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC this summer. Hull City released an official post claiming that the club has decided to cancel the striker’s contract so that he can ply his trade in the United States next season.

The Norwegian forward has been at the KCOM Stadium since 2015, notching up with 64 appearances for Hull City which saw him find the back of the net 8 times for the Tigers. He was famously part of Steve Bruce’s Hull squad which managed to win a promotion back to the English top-flight in 2016.

Diomande has found first-team opportunities limited at Hull during the course of this season which is why his move could turn out to be beneficial for all parties. He has been a sporadic feature in Nigel Adkins’ starting eleven and has featured in just 19 matches for the Tigers this term, scoring a goal while grabbing two assists across all competitions.

Adkins’ team have managed to avoid being relegated from the English Championship this season and has shown some grit in recent weeks to boost their survival chances. They need to bring in a number of quality players if they are to have any hope of finishing in a promotion spot next term.

The departure of Diomande won’t affect their first-team too much but their squad will be slightly depleted if they fail to bring in a suitable replacement. The Norwegian’s goal-scoring record at the KCOM Stadium was mediocre, to say the least. Hence, the club can benefit from getting a proven player who can bang in goals for them on a consistent basis next season.

Diomande should fare much better in the MLS and has a chance to end his career on a high by winning some trophies with Los Angeles FC. He is quite versatile and can operate on either flank or as a centre-forward which makes him a perfect fit for the Los Angeles-based team. The move could also provide him with some extra financial incentive as he looks ahead into life after retirement from ‘the beautiful game’. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Diomande and whether his switch to the MLS turns out to be a success in the near future.
